This time there are a few unusual sets to be found too, including a haunted hovel, a Greek track, and bayou, among others, making this one of the most varied Crash Bandicoot games in terms of environments. Some environments are reminiscent of the more classic games in the series: you've got beaches, temple ruins, jungles, and more. The frame rate is also much smoother and there is virtually no object popping to speak of, something that plagued the game's predecessor. The characters actually look like themselves this time, and there's a lot more detail around the tracks. The presentation in this game is endlessly better than the ugly mess that was CBNK3D. (At least, I'm told that's what one looks like after such things are done.) The music is superlative, with boppy themes that never grate. The game's presentation is a vast improvement over CBNK3D. When Crash mugs at you with unblinking eyes, he looks like he's just scored an eight ball. The characters are well-modeled, although their expressions are a tad creepy since they seem largely frozen. Nitro Kart is a visually impressive game, filled with blistering colors and nicely designed courses. Each course is also laden with Crash's favorite tropical fruits you should collect and the letters C-R-A-S-H, which result in bonuses and extras if amassed during a single race. There are speed zippers on the ground and a boost power-up for extra bursts when you enter straight stretches and want to rocket past the competition. Like any respectable kart racer, the tracks are loaded with weapons to pick up and use against the other racers, such as bombs and oil slicks. It takes a touch of practice, but after a few tries in quick play mode, you should have the hang of it.

The first few times you try this, you will bounce off walls. Because you enter turns at breakneck speed, you must tap and hold a finger on the screen (just reach a thumb over) to initiate a powerslide and whip through a tough turn. This might bother core gamers that demand control over everything in a game, but it works pretty well here. Nitro Kart borrows a "feature" of mobile racers by making each kart auto-accelerate.

The response is good - a little better than Wingnuts Moto Racer. Nitro Kart employs tilt-screen controls like the other iPhone racers, as you hold the device like a small steering wheel.

But no matter how much content is packed in this download, it would be for naught if the controls were bad. There are 12 stages total to unlock, giving you plenty of real estate to rip up in the day-glo karts driven by the various heroes and villains of the Crash universe, such as Cortex and CoCo. Nitro Kart offers a number of race modes, such as a story mode with an unnecessary plot, a quick race for a few minutes of fast play, and a tournament mode for more structured play.
